SKIN CARE DURING SUMMER
Getting a tan during the summer can be fun, but it’s important to do it safely to avoid sun damage. Here are some tips for achieving a tan while protecting your skin:
1. Use Sunscreen
- Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) 15-30 minutes before going out in the sun. This will protect your skin from harmful UV rays while still allowing you to tan. Reapply every 2 hours or after swimming or sweating.
2. Start Slow
- If your skin is lighter or sensitive, start by spending short periods in the sun and gradually increase the time to avoid sunburn.
3. Hydrate
- Drink plenty of water. Sun exposure can dehydrate your skin, and staying hydrated helps maintain healthy skin and a longer-lasting tan.
4. Tan in the Right Hours
- The best time to tan is early in the morning (before 10 a.m.) or late afternoon (after 4 p.m.). These hours have lower UV radiation levels compared to midday sun, reducing the risk of burning.
5. Rotate Regularly
- Move around every 20-30 minutes to avoid uneven tanning. This ensures that all parts of your body get exposed to the sun.
6. Moisturize
- After tanning, use a good moisturizer to keep your skin soft and prevent peeling. Aloe vera gel is great for soothing the skin after sun exposure.
7. Use Self-Tanner
- If you want a quicker, safer tan, consider using a self-tanner. It provides a tan without needing sun exposure and reduces the risk of skin damage.
Remember:
- Avoid tanning to the point of sunburn, as it can damage the skin and increase the risk of skin cancer. Always be mindful of how your skin feels, and take breaks from the sun as needed!
