How to choose sunscreen

Choosing the right sunscreen is important for protecting your skin from the harmful effects of the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Here are some tips to help you choose the right sunscreen:

1. Look for a sunscreen with an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 30:

The SPF rating indicates the level of protection against UVB rays, which are the rays that cause sunburn and skin cancer.

2.  Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen:

A broad-spectrum sunscreen protects against both UVB and UVA rays. UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin and can cause skin aging and contribute to skin cancer risk.

3. Consider your skin type:

If you have sensitive skin, look for a mineral-based sunscreen that contains zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which are less likely to irritate the skin.

If you have oily skin, choose a lightweight, oil-free sunscreen.

4. Choose a water-resistant sunscreen:

If you plan to be in the water or sweat heavily, choose a water-resistant sunscreen that will stay on your skin longer.

5. Check the expiration date:

Sunscreen loses its effectiveness over time, so check the expiration date before using it.

6. Apply enough sunscreen:

The American Academy of Dermatology recommends using about one ounce (enough to fill a shot glass) of sunscreen for each application.

Apply it generously to all exposed skin, including your face, ears, and the back of your neck.

Remember to reapply sunscreen every two hours or after swimming or sweating. And always use sunscreen in combination with other sun protection measures, such as wearing protective clothing and seeking shade during the hottest part of the day.
