Healthy Eating Tips, Meal Planning, and Nutrient-Rich Foods for Optimal Health

Removing stubborn stains from clothes requires the right approach depending on the type of stain. Here’s a general guide for tackling common stubborn stains:

1. Oil/Grease Stains

  • Method: Sprinkle baking soda, cornstarch, or baby powder on the stain and let it sit for 15–30 minutes to absorb the oil.
  • Next Step: Brush off the powder, apply dish soap (preferably a grease-cutting one) directly onto the stain, and gently rub it in.
  • Wash: Launder as usual in the hottest water safe for the fabric.

2. Wine/Coffee Stains

  • Method: Blot the stain (don’t rub!) using a clean cloth or paper towel to soak up as much liquid as possible.
  • Treatment: Apply a mixture of white vinegar and dish soap (1:1 ratio) to the stained area.
  • Wash: Rinse with cold water, then wash the item with laundry detergent. For red wine, sprinkling salt over the stain before applying vinegar helps absorb more of the wine.

3. Blood Stains

  • Method: Soak the stained area in cold water as soon as possible (never use hot water, as it can set the stain).
  • Treatment: Dab with hydrogen peroxide or apply a paste made of baking soda and water. Let it sit for 10 minutes, then rinse.
  • Wash: Wash in cold water with regular detergent.

4. Ink Stains

  • Method: Dab the stain with rubbing alcohol or hairspray using a cotton ball. Place a paper towel underneath the fabric to absorb the ink.
  • Next Step: Blot until the ink transfers to the towel. Replace the paper towel as needed.
  • Wash: Rinse and launder as usual.

5. Sweat Stains (Yellowing)

  • Method: Mix baking soda and hydrogen peroxide into a paste and apply it to the yellow stain.
  • Next Step: Let it sit for 30 minutes before rinsing with cold water.
  • Wash: Launder normally, adding a bit of white vinegar during the rinse cycle to help with odor.

6. Grass Stains

  • Method: Rub liquid laundry detergent or dish soap directly into the stain.
  • Treatment: Alternatively, you can use white vinegar mixed with water to help break down the green pigment.
  • Wash: Launder using the hottest water safe for the fabric.

7. Makeup Stains (Foundation/Lipstick)

  • Method: Gently scrape off any excess makeup.
  • Treatment: Apply makeup remover or shaving cream to the stain and rub it in with your fingers.
  • Wash: Rinse with cold water and then wash as usual.

General Tips:

  • Pre-treat: Pre-treat stains as soon as possible for best results.
  • Avoid heat: Don’t dry stained clothing in a dryer until you’re sure the stain is gone—heat can set the stain permanently.
  • Repeat: For very stubborn stains, repeat the process if needed before drying.

Different fabrics may require more delicate care, so always check the care label before applying treatments.
